Metal barriers are commonly installed on the side of the road, particularly in areas with dangerous curves. The structures are relatively simple looking and appear to be identical no matter where you go in the world. And while the barriers are installed to save lives, if someone hits one at high speed, the consequences can be devastating.
But ETI, a South Korean company, set out to offer a better solution. Their design is simple and cheap, and best of all – it can be installed on existing metal barriers. They placed plastic rollers between each column that not only absorb the car’s impact but also spin, reducing the chance that the car will flip after impact. Now we just have to wait for states to install it.
