While it’s obviously rare and typically doesn’t require correction, dogs can have crooked teeth just like humans.
Molly lives in Michigan where she works at a veterinary clinic run by her father, Jim. A few months ago she adopted Wesley, a super cute golden retriever puppy.
Wesley is a happy little dog. He loves running and, of course, eating. But when he hit 6 months, the family noticed that he was having some dental issues.
“Once his adult teeth started coming out, we noticed they were coming in wrong and he was unable to close his mouth fully,” Molly told BuzzFeed.
“He wasn’t playing with his toys and he was losing weight,” she said. “It was very worrying for me, and we needed to do something for him to be pain free and live a happy puppy life.”
But lucky for Wesley, Molly’s dad has experience treating these kinds of issues, so Wesley got braces 🙂
Even though the technique is rarely used, Jim explained that in this case there really was no choice. It turns out that Wesley suffers from a condition known as malocclusion which prevents him from closing his mouth and the braces are his only chance to be pain-free and leave a normal doggy life. Wesley got his braces put on while under general anaesthesia so he wouldn’t feel a thing.- Advertisement -
And this is how he looks now. Pretty cute, right?
The veterinary clinic uploaded the pictures to Facebook and they instantly went viral. They were shared more than 300 thousand times with tens of thousands of comments from users who fell madly in love with the metal-mouthed pup.
The good news is that unlike in humans where braces are usually left on for years, Wesley only needs them for a couple of weeks.
Smile Wesley! 🙂- Advertisement -
